Hampton Park. Located on the upper peninsula and bordered by Hampton Park Terrace, Wagener Terrace, The Citadel and North Central neighborhoods in downtown Charleston, Hampton Park is one of the cities’ largest and oldest parks. Boasting sixty acres of natural beauty, you’ll be delighted by beautiful oak trees and the extensive floral displays. Enjoy walking and biking on trails that circulate the entirety of the park. Hampton Park is a charming oasis with a rich history. This park was once part of a grand exposition in the late 19th century and still maintains its historic charm today.
Marion Square. Marion Square, located in the heart of downtown Charleston’s historic district, is a six-and-a-half-acre urban park surrounded by historic buildings and is the home to many monuments. This iconic park is the perfect place to enjoy the excitement of downtown Charleston, while catching a break from the sun under the shady trees. The square hosts a farmers market every Saturday throughout the spring and summer, along with various festivals. Whether you’re looking to relax on the grass or enjoy a peaceful moment on a bench, you’re sure to see some pleasant faces.
Colonial Lake. Colonial Lake, located in Harleston Village, is a palm tree-lined park and tidal pond with wide walkways. Known as one of the most popular parks for outdoor recreation such as walking, jogging and bike rides, Colonial Lake is loved by locals and tourists alike. Colonial Lake dates back to the 1700s and was once known as Rutledge Street Pond. It was renovated by the Charleston Parks Conservancy in 2016 to include a $5.9 million dollar investment to repair the timeworn seawall, install a more efficient water system, as well as new benches and seating areas. Most recently, the Conservancy hired renowned designer Molly Hendry to design three acres of new gardens. This revitalization, completed in October 2025, included removing old, overgrown plants to make space for new and more resilient species, which ensures that Colonial Lake will remain as a beautiful space for the community to enjoy year-round!
Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. Located at the base of the Ravenel Bridge in Mount Pleasant lies a spacious park where you can enjoy the breeze and views of the Charleston Harbor. Known as the “Crown Jewel” of Mount Pleasant, locals and visitors enjoy picnics, fishing, a nautical-themed playground, occasional events and sunset walks on the 1,250-foot pier. The Memorial Waterfront Park is currently undergoing a major renovation project, where a First Responders monument will be installed to honor and pay tribute to police officers, firefighters and public service employees within our community. In addition to the monument, other features include a multipurpose sports court that features two basketball and four pickleball courts, a splash pad fountain play area, a restroom facility, a dog park, an exercise area, an expanded maintenance facility, and parking improvements.
Joe-Riley Waterfront Park. Overlooking the Charleston Harbor on the eastern coast of the peninsula, Waterfront Park was deemed “this generation’s gift to the future” by Mayor Riley and was historically known as the center of local maritime traffic traveling in and out of the Charleston Harbor. This iconic eight-acre linear park and pier features intimate gardens, spectacular fountains, spacious lawns and walking paths. Joe-Riley Waterfront Park has become one of the hottest attractions in Charleston, as many visit this park to take a photo in front of the iconic Pineapple Fountain.
