Charleston in the Fall

One of the most amazing times of the year in Charleston is the fall season. The sun rises around 7 am and sets at 7 pm, so you can easily experience the beauty of both times of day, and still enjoy a full day of activities. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, but it is a welcome break from the not-so-distant summer months. Temperatures in the fall can start out in the 50s so you need a jacket at the beginning of the day (but not yet a coat) and it can then rise to the high 70s by the afternoon. Then when the sun sets, that jacket comes back on.  You can also avoid some of the small Charleston nuisances like high humidity and pesky bugs. Well…less bugs, that is.

The outdoor lifestyle that makes Charleston so special in the summer can still be experienced throughout the changing seasons. The fall is a great time to head out on a boat. You may be a little more bundled up, but you don’t have to worry about the sun bearing down on you and with less boat traffic the water is wide open. The beaches don’t have nearly the crowds and are perfect for that leisurely walk on the weekends to listen to the waves and take in the sea air.

Fall also kicks autumn activities into full gear. The South is known for its love of football and that means there is always a party or event on Saturdays centered around college games. The cooler weather also means it is time for traditional oyster roasts. Oyster roasts are great to gather people around a table for great food and fun conversation. The fall also means activities for Halloween including pumpkin patches, festivals and trick-or-treating. This spooky holiday is not only a treat for kids, adults also love to attend Halloween themed events and parties.

As you can see, Charleston in the fall is one of the best times to experience all the city has to offer and just one more reason it is such a special place to call home.
