Lowcountry Holiday Events

◂ Back to Posts

One of the many things we love about Charleston is there is always something to do.  The holidays are no different, with plenty of local Lowcountry events going on around town to celebrate the season.  Don’t miss some of our favorites listed below…

Start your morning off on December 6th with the Reindeer Run.  A family/pet friendly 5K race through the lower peninsula of downtown Charleston starting and ending in front of Southend Brewery.  Grab your antlers and your running shoes, the race begins at 9am.  For more information and race details visit http://reindeerrun.org/home

After the run, head over to Marion Square for the holiday market and tree lighting ceremony. The holiday market takes place from 9-4:00 pm followed by the magnificent tree lighting ceremony from 4-6:00pm.

The 33rd annual Holiday Parade of Boats will be December 13th beginning at 5:00 pm.  Boats decked out from stem to stern with holiday lights parade through the harbor beginning near the Mt. Pleasant side and ending in the Ashley River.  Find a spot along the waterfront to sip hot chocolate and enjoy the show or participate from the water.  Deadline for boat participation is December 10th.

All month long you can embrace the season with the Holiday Festival of Lights on James Island.  Featuring over 700 displays and two million lights this is a site to see! Drive through the magical displays or park your car and catch a ride on the holiday train for a close up view.  Don’t miss the seasonal sculpture made out of 50 tons of sand, treats from Santa’s Sweet Shoppe, and handmade ginger bread houses as well.
