As we wrap up the week, here is a look at the most recent 5 Charlestonians featured as part of CHARLIE magazine’s 50 Most Progressive:
1. Susan Hull Walker – Owner and Creator of iBu. Progressiveness surrounds Walker: her flowing, South American-style ruanna jackets and leather wrap bracelets from Kenya are making a fashion splash. Through iBu, Walker is creating markets for women who are weaving with traditional techniques in countries around the world, including India, Laos, Thailand, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Peru.
2. Gavin McCulley – Business Coach. A former U.S. Army Special Forces Logistics Officer and Commander, having served in both Iraq and Afghanistan where he was awarded 3 bronze stars has now turned entrepreneur and tech investor supporting the Charleston community.
3. Rustin and Teresa Gooden – Masterminds behind Bulls Bay Saltworks. Their passion for a sustainable lifestyle and tireless work ethic make them more than your average artisan salt makers.
4. Edith Howle – Curator for TEDxCharleston. Howle’s goal is to put people with fascinating ideas in front of people who will be inspired. TEDxCharleston, is a local, independently organized that makes this possible.
5. Lily Peterson – Flowershop artist. Peterson is changing the way people look at flowers through her floral studies and Flowershop at Mixon which was built on the idea of everyday flowers for the purpose of having something beautiful in your home.
